Now that we’ve looked at micro-blogging, do any of you in the class have Twitter accounts? If so, what is your typical tweet content?

I tend to use Twitter to simply say what I’m doing. But, I’m aware that I have to be careful what I’m saying, so I make sure I’m not being inappropriate.
I took some time to see what some of the “big guys” in the field were saying on Twitter before I jumped in on the conversation. There are some links to articles of interest, but mostly, the discussion is witty banter between corporate folk.
Gary, you mentioned that there’s a correlation between an increase in Twitter posts and a decrease in longer blog postings. And, I agree, but I don’t understand why. Most twittering I’ve seen is not merit for further discussion.
I see micro-blogging as a VERY social means. It’s fun to see what so many interesting people are up to, and what they’re saying to other people on the site. But, it’s pretty informal. So, I think it’s a good idea to get involved with both blogging and micro-blogging.
Test driving the tools can’t hurt. Like you, I’m not sure why Twittering means less blogging. Perhaps the Twitterati consume more time reading others’ ‘tweets’ than composing their own.
I guess this has to do with my lack of social media knowlegde and know-how, but I don’t find maneovering Twitter to be very easy. I signed up okay but trying to find people has proven to be a challenge, much less following and being followed and jumping in and out of commentary.
It makes me wonder if Twitter is just another toy to play with in the social media world. I mean, isn’t it just a hot new trendy version of IM only faster and more interactive? I tried reading up on Twitter and needless to say there is much info on the website itself.
What is the purpose of micro-blogging? There are so many means to tap into the social media network, what does this insta-blogging (aka micro-blogging) have to offer?
Does this change the face of social media or is it another trend?
